Penguins and Turtles

I just learned that there is a name for the tight huddle that Emperor penguins form to keep one another warm in the frigid Antarctic.

Amazingly, it’s called “turtle formation.”

Thanks to Krystin, a former colleague of Ed’s and a fan of the One Good Thing page, for this very meaningful tip.

  6. Mandy, if I were not a person who already believed in the permanant connections between the living, the dead, and the not-yet-living, I would be now.

  11. This reminds me of something I recently learned. My son Gage died July 2009 when he was 8 months old. I read him the Velveteen Rabbit a lot and it was read at his service. We cremated him with my stuffed bunny that I had slept with my whole life. The day he died we came home and there was a bunny standing outside my window staring back at me. Then we started seeing bunnies on special occasions...even when the weather was not typical for seeing bunnies. This last Easter I was reading a book about bunnies. It said that the home that mommy bunnies make for their babies is called a warren. That is Gage's middle name. Gage Warren. It was meant to be:)

  12. I love how life gives us these moments of grace. The funny thing too is that I see pictures of penguin's everywhere. I feel like Hudson is letting us know that she is ever so near and that she, too, is happy her sibling is on it's way.
