Dandelion

A few weeks ago, as I was walking in to the house from the car (one of my favorite routines with Hudson), I saw this dandelion.  It was right by the sidewalk, at just the spot where Hudson would usually bend over to pick it up.  In the two weeks before she died, she had just started learning to blow the seeds and would giggle as they scattered.

I looked around the yard-- it being a bit past dandelion season, I could not find another one like it anywhere else.

I couldn't help but think my sweet girl was saying hello during one of my favorite (now one of my saddest) moments.

So when I was fooling around on the Blogger design page today, trying to add the donation links at right, and saw the new design templates Blogger offered, this one with the blowing dandelion seeds jumped right out at me.  Much more fitting in so many ways, don't you think?

Missing my girl.

  2. My grandfather's favorite "flowers" were dandelions and he could never understand why my grandmother wanted to have them killed. I have always thought of him when I see them and will now think of Hudson as well!

  3. Mandy, I love the new look of the blog. And in response to your previous post, thank you for letting us be witnesses. You amaze me in so many ways, not the least of which is your beautiful writing and expression here. We have shared Hudson's story with many people we've come in contact with. Our CSA farmer had actually heard about her from someone else when we talked to him. - Andrea Short

  6. This so reminds me of one of Maddie's favorite books, "Pete & Pickles"... After a rescue and a rest, they awake to "pick blueberries on the Dandelion Moons of Pluto," sharing a joyous life together again.

Sending you lots of love and hoping there is just a little bit less pain in your heart today as you remember your beautful little girl. - LTA
