There’s a first time for everything, right?
Here is the first article of clothing I have ever made. Shorts for Jackson. They are so imperfect, it’s not even funny. I have a long way to go just to get better at sewing in a straight line. The hardest part was trying to get the hems on both legs to be the same length. And I didn’t. Not quite. And next time, I think I’ll try a print that doesn’t require matching at the seams.
But I figure they’re not too bad for my first time out, particularly considering that a three-month-old will be wearing them, and probably only for a few weeks before outgrowing them. They even have pockets.
The fabric was cheap, but special. Every time I look at these, hopefully I’ll smile, thinking of when Hudson would lay on her changing table, look up at the yellow crab stuffed animal hanging nearby and say “Cab!”
Oh, how I miss her.
They look great! I didn't notice any of the imperfections you noted. Jackson will look adorable wearing them.
ReplyDeleteThey are great! Pockets on a first-time clothing project?! You're a star.
ReplyDeleteThey look so great, Mandy! I'm impressed -- pockets!? They're going to look even cuter on your Jackson.
ReplyDeleteToo cute for words! Mariann
ReplyDeleteYou are beyond talented...I am so impressed.
ReplyDeleteAnd, thank you for continuing to share your journey. I so appreciate that you share joy and pain coexisting; it helps me to continue to do the same.

Who's gonna notice (besides you)? They look great! Tackling pockets on your first project was very brave...but I guess that's fitting for you!! Super job, Mandy ~ you will be so proud the first time Jackson wears them & the compliments start rolling in. :)

Great work!
ReplyDeleteI saw someone on FB say "good climbing" to you this week-- I echo that. You continue to amaze me.
ReplyDeleteThe idea that anything meant to be worn over a diaper needs to be anywhere near perfect is just silly. These are very cute!
ReplyDeleteHannah
Cute cute cute! And will be even cuter with Jackson's inevitable (and hopefully infrequent) diaper blowouts :)

I think they look great!!!
ReplyDeleteThese are awesome Mandy!! Maybe by the time I have babies, you will be a pro :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so proud of you...
Look at you! Sewing, creating, mommying, all while grieving. YOU ROCK! I think they are adorable, and over a diaper, nobody will even THINK about hems.
ReplyDeleteBig hugs,
Claire
What a hoot! They make me smile just looking at them, let alone imagining the little boy who will be wearing them! You did an awesome job---it tickles my soul that in the midst of all the grieving that is still going on, you picked out the brightest, cheeriest fabric you could find...GOOD JOB, Mandy! Here comes the sun!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Judy
And it's MORE than all right...
ReplyDeleteJ.
From here they look absolutely perfect and adorable. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with Judy Sloan - what a hoot these adorable shorts are. Are they as big as they look so that Jackson will be 3 or 4 before he can wear them?! They look tres professional to me! Good going, Mandy!
ReplyDeleteWith love,
Rebecca
Love the crabs!!! It's awesome that you've taken on sewing. It's something I occasionally consider, but don't think I have the patience for right now. Although if you get going, maybe we can barter for some pants hemming?
